I was reading the latest Llewelly catalog (masochism on my part) and ran across this book description,
"Portal to an Ancient Norse World of Magic and Danger" "Fifteen-year-old Samuel...decides to explore the creaky old attic. There he finds a ring pin engraved with weird symbols...The ring pin has mysterious powers that allow Samuel to communicate with Rag and Thokk, the ravens that live in the attic. The ring also has the power to ransport the trio to the perilous and magical world of the Nordic gods. Suddenly, the three find themselves in the midst of a battle among the most powerful gods of the Norse pantheon--Thor, the thunder god, Aegir, the sea god; and Loki, the trickster." Hilarity ensues. Sorry, just had to type that. Seriously, "Samuel is drawn into the timeless conflicts of the gods as he searches for Thor's magical hammer Mjollnir and eventually must answer a challenge that will determine the fate of the gods themselves."
I don't think this looks appreciably sillier than a lot of other young adult fiction out there, even if the "random kid gets to decide the fate of XYZ" theme has been done to death. Might be worth checking out if you have a young adult reader in your life or you're not above enjoying an occasional YA read. The Amazon link is here.

Did a little Ostara blot last night. A big part of it was taking my altar apart and putting it back together. Every time I look at the new set-up it gives me a lift, so I probably did something to energize the ond in the room. (The Nordic equivalent of chi, prana, etc.)
I asked for strength and aid. I feel dreadfully sluggish and tired. I think it's winter, I think it's all sorts of stresses. I think it's that I'm not exercising and I'm drinking too much (because of the stresses).
And Gods, I'm so sick of snow. It snowed AGAIN and it's still on the ground. Ostara, and there's snow on the ground.
Maybe I need more vitamins. Or a different job. I definately need a different job. And, warm weather, poking about in the garden and all sorts of good outdoorsy things.
I'm still slogging my way through The Vikings and the Victorians. And, "slogging" is the operative word. This is one fucking dense book. I've finally gotten past all the bios and gotten to the point where people are publishing translations and other people are reacting to the translations. Yay.
I just finished menstruating. Despite my complaining about my sluggishness, I definitely have an upswing of good health and spirit right after I menstruate. My second job interview is coming up, so I hope that it hits me at just the right place where I really wow them and get this position.
